Three Strikes and He’s Out…

The job of the presidency is the most important duty to this country. We cannot give a free pass for a poor job simply because we like a guy or think he might do a better job if we just wait and hope harder. Just like any job, we hire someone because they promise (and we believe) that they will perform the tasks for which they were given the position.

Trump was elected primarily for 3 things:

Build the Wall
Drain the Swamp
Lock Her Up

These are the things most enthusiastically chanted at his campaign rallies, but he also made numerous promises on protecting the 2nd Amendment, disentangling us from endless Middle East wars, balancing the budget and a myriad of other important domestic issues. Here are some that matter most to me and how they’ve worked out so far:

Promise:

“We will build a wall along the southern border. I’m talking about precasts going up probably 35 to 40 feet up in the air. That’s high. That’s a real wall. The wall will be constructed out of hardened concrete, rebar and steel, and it will be the greatest wall that you’ve ever seen. Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEO’s and diplomats; increase fees on all border crossing cards; increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico; and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico”

Result:
A fence that’s already proven to be easily scaled and Trump authorizes 10.6 billion dollars in aid to Mexico and South America enough to pay for two walls.

Promise:
“Temporarily ban most foreign Muslims from entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”
Result:
He was blocked by some Asian judge in Hawaii.

Promise:
Bar Syrian refugees from entering the country and kick out any who are already living here. “if I win, they’re going back.”
Result:
Not a single deportation of refugees and 22 thousand admitted in 2018 alone.

Promise:
Deport 11 million immigrants illegally living in the United States.
Result:
The U.S. deported about 256 thousand people in 2018

Promise:
Deport DACA recipients.
Result:
Only 43.

Promise:
On the first day in office, terminate President Obama’s executive orders related to immigration. This includes getting rid of “sanctuary cities”
Result:
Nothing

Promise:
End birthright citizenship.
Result:
Nothing.

Promise:
Prosecute Hillary Clinton for her use of a private e-mail server while serving as secretary of state. “(If he were in charge she’d) Be in jail.”
Result:
“I don’t want to hurt them, they’re good people”

Promise:
Find ways to arm more of the “good guys” like him who can take out the “sickos.” Get rid of bans on certain types of guns and magazines so that “good, honest people” can own the guns of their choice.
Result:
Passed a law banning bump-fire stocks, “slide-fire” devices, and devices with certain similar characteristics.

Promise:
On his first day in office, Trump would get rid of gun-free zones at military bases and in schools.
Result:
Nothing

Promise:
Allow concealed-carry permits to be recognized in all 50 states.
Result:
Nothing.

Promise:
Get out of the Middle East.
Result:
We’re leaving, kinda maybe, Syria at some point, probably.

Promise:
Allow Russia to deal with the Islamic State in Syria and/or work with Russian President Vladimir Putin to wipe out shared enemies.
Result:
On the morning of 7 April 2017, the United States launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea into Syria, aimed at Shayrat Airbase controlled by the Syrian government.

Promise:
“Reduce the $18 trillion national debt by vigorously eliminating waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government, ending redundant government programs.”
Result:
National debt rose by $2 trillion and is rising faster than it has since 2012. Also, no significant moves on fraud, waste or redundancy.

Promise:
Eliminate the Dodd-Frank Act.
Result:
Nothing.

Promise:
Get rid of Common Core because it’s “a disaster” and a “very bad thing.” and might even eliminate the Department of Education.
Result:
Nothing.

Promise:
Get rid of Obamacare and replace it with something “terrific”
Result:
We got rid of the mandate. That’s it. Everything else is exactly the same.

If this was my employee, I would have the duty to walk into his office and tell him in my best Donald Trump style “You’re fired!”, and I imagine that’s what voters will tell him in 2020 unless he has an incredibly successful 2019 with a House of Representatives that hates his guts.

“I don’t like them, not one bit” – Donald Trump when asked about White Nationalists.

Well Mr. Trump, the feeling is mutual.
